Politics in Simcoe-Grey

Last week voters from all across Ontario went to the polls. Turnout in the towns that make up the Federal and Provincial riding of Simcoe-Grey was way up except in Wasaga Beach where voter turnout was down 4% from 2006. In 2006 we had a 31% voter turnout and for 2010 it was 27%. Way the drop? did the drop have an effect on the outcome of the race?

Wasaga Beach is mostly a senior community and maybe that explains the low voter turnout. However prior to the voting day, our advance polls were down about 900 from 2006, and on the day of voting their were line-ups outside and around the corner for all of the day. Residents were complaining that they had to wait 45 minutes plus to vote and most people just walked away when they saw the long lines. So why only 1, yes 1 location for residents to vote. Hopefully we will get answers as to why.

Ok with people leaving the voting location and the low voter turnout would this have had an effect on the outcome of the races? I don't think so because like I said before this is mainly a seniors community and they usually vote for people they have known for years.

On another note, Tony Guergis the Mayor of Springwater and David Guergis his brother, the Mayor of Essa were both defeated. Both Tony and David are cousins to Christine Brayford, the sister of Helena Guergis the MP for Simcoe-Grey, who was booted out of the Conservative party was also defeated in her bid to become Deputy Mayor.

So to me it looks like politics in some areas of Simcoe Grey are changing, and in others it's more of the same.
