Since the tragic shooting in Tucson, Arizona that left 6 dead, including a 9 year old girl, the media both on the left and right are blaming the other. The other night I was watching Anderson Cooper on CNN, and he had on Bill Maher who everyone knows has a big dislike for the right. However he made a very good point when it came to the issue of the shooter being able to walk into a sports store and purchase a gun. Yes he had to wait a few days before his permit was approved, but why was it approved when he had a known history of mental disorder. Like Bill Maher said all you had to do is google his name and you will see that this guy was nuts, yet he got the permit to purchase and carry the firearm that killed 6 people.
I for one believe in the 2nd admendment which gives Americans the right to bear arms. However if you have a known history of being NUTS! or a previous criminal record, then you should NOT be given a permit to carry a firearm, plain and simple, and if the NRA has an issue with that then they know where they can stick there guns!
So if you've been following the back and forth between the likes of Sarah Palin and the Tea Party and some on the left who flt out blame Palin and the Tea Party movement for the tragic events in Arizona, one would think that the United States is heading down a path towards civil war. Was Palin wrong to say what she said, and post the cross hairs on her website? Yes she was wrong 100%. Were certain members of the Tea Party wrong to target certain members of Congress with comments like we are "gunning for you", or you are on our "hit list"? Yes they are also 100% wrong for saying stupid comments like that. Were certain news reporters on the left wrong for blaming the right for the events in Arizona? Yes they are just as bad as Palin and those on the right.
So now in the United States you have a very toxic political environment which should not be the case. The shooter has a history of mental illness, he was kicked out of school for his views and beliefs about violence. Is he a card carrying member of the Republican or Tea Party? No he's not, he's just a guy who has a history of mental health and needed to get help. If anyone is to blame for this tragic shooting it's his family and friends for not getting him the help he needs, and for the State for not making sure that someone as unstable as him got the help he needed.
So for the sake of America's political future, can the powers that be on the left and right see this for what it really is, and not turn it into a Liberal or Conservative issue, but an American issue. People with mental health problems need to be able to get the help they need before we have another tragic event like the one in Arizona. America spends billions a year helping other countires, so when are they going to start helping the people at home.
Until next time!
