Canadians heading to the polls?
So the budget was released yesterday, and the other 3 parties have said they would vote down the budget, most likely by Friday March 25th, 2011. The NDP asked that the government remove the HST on home heating costs as part of the budget, they refused. The Liberals and NDP asked that they put off the corporate tax cuts which would amount to 6 billion less in taxes collected, until Canada is on stronger financial footing, they refused. The Conservatives did announce 2.3 billion in new spending to please some people, but it does not go far enough in helping our seniors who live below the poverty line, it does not go far enough in helping middle to low income families. But it's fine for Harper to spend 35 billion on fighter jets, un-disclosed billions on new jails.
Don't forget that the Conservative government might not fall on the budget. There's a contempt of Parliament facing the Conservatives, and the Liberals have an opposition day on Friday and they plan to introduce a non-confidence motion on the contempt charges, and this could trigger an election before the budget vote.
So order your lawn signs before they are all gone...
Until next time!
