Barack Obama - Maybe we can!

Like most of the world I watched election night back in November 2008, when America elected their first Black President. After 8 years of seeing America decline under the leadership of George W. Bush and the worst recession since the great depression underway, Barack Obama ran on a platform of hope and change. His famous slogan was "Yes We Can" today it's "Maybe We Can".
What went wrong?, where did all the hope and promise go?. For one I don't blame Obama as much as I blame the Conservative movement in the United States. The fact that McCain lost was not as bad as the fact that Obama won. A first term Senator who was unknown, going up against a decorated war hero, and a long time, well liked Senator. The Conservatives in the United States hated the fact that he won, and won big in 2008 and promised that they would do everything in their power to ensure that he was a one term President. They did this with Jimmy Carter, but the GOP don't have a Ronald Regan for 2012 to go up against Obama.
Now we have the House controlled by the GOP who promise to stop all of Obama's plans moving forward. The Dems still control the Senate but not by much. Recently Obama caved into the demands of the GOP by extending the Bush tax cuts to all Americans. Obama wanted to keep the Bush tax cuts for families earning $ 250,000 a year or less, and raise taxes on the rich. Now the tax increase on the rich would have been brought back to the point where they were prior to the Bush tax cuts. How by caving into the demands of the GOP the nation deficit will rise by another 400 billion a year under this plan.
Don't get me wrong I'm all for tax cuts when you have an ecomony going like gang busters like they were during the Clinton years, but cutting taxes on the top 1% of Americans during a recession does not make sense. Since the recession the top 1% of Americans have seen their net worth increase because they are not spending money, or creating jobs by reinvesting their money, they are saving it, and putting their money into off shore non-taxable bank accounts.
When I voted in the American election, I voted for change and hope because if America is successful so is Canada, and I hoped Obama was the man who could change things in Washington, but it seems I'm wrong. Politics in Washington has not, and will not change no matter which political party controls the White House.
